Boudoir Poses That Work For Absolutely Everybody
There are literally 100 different poses you can do on the bed. (or on the floor) - Remember to stretch before your session, that’s more important than you might think because the more you stretch and arch and bend, the sexier and more dramatic your posing will look.
Get ready for your boudoir experience by having fun, practicing these at home. Remember, with Boudoir posing, we want to avoid straight limbs wherever possible and create beautiful triangles with our bent limbs. As a simple example…. Here, Shareen is giving us a dozen different poses that will work for any body.
Start simply by sitting up on the bed. 2.role gently onto your hip, creating a triangle with the upper leg. 3 Exaggerate the bend in the knee and create another triangle with the upper arm. Create a gap between the upper elbow and waist to slim the hip and upper arm 4. Now slowly continue to role over onto your chest but keep your hip off the bed with your supporting knee (See the beautiful triangles again?) 5 Now, even the weight on your elbows and push your booty up, arching your back for great, sexy curves. Separate your knees by ‘walking them’ 6 Down again on the bed for a variation of pose 4 but stretch the neck more. (Often revisiting poses in a slightly different way or from a different angle, changes the mood of a picture completely.) 7 Using the elbows for support and for more beautiful triangles, we can now gain some portrait close ups which will focus on the eyes and cleavage. These are often some of the most popular looks of the day. A Madison Bou style note is that light aimed from behind at the hair can be made to simulate sunshine coming in through a window and will give the picture a real Sunny feel. 8 Now, fully rotate onto your back but be mindful of looking too rigid (No planks here!) by bending separated knees on way and your head rotated in the opposite direction. Use your bent (triangular) elbows to lift up the chest and arch your back. The better the stretch the more it hurts, the more it hurts the better it looks. (twas always thus in life!) Try pushing your head back, to help with the arch. You’ll only need to hold this position for a few seconds but, oh, the drama makes it so worthwhile. Collapse in exhaustion and take a drink. You’ve earned it.
This is one of the more difficult poses to master.
What we ask you to do here is support yourself on your elbows on the edge of the bed or sofa while literally hovering your ‘booty’ over the floor and balancing on your toes. Yep, it really is like a gym workout.
If your bottom ‘hovers’ but doesn’t touch the floor this will help to elongate your torso and suck in your tummy at the same time.
If you bring your elbows as close to your torso as possible- this will give you more height to raise your chest to the ceiling. arch your back and let your head fall all the way back with zero strain in the neck. Close your eyes and breathe through your mouth. This pose usually takes a couple of tries to nail it so don’t feel bad if you struggle a little with this.
Everyone loves our booty poses. Here we have you start on your knees and elbows. Then we stretch your left arm forward and have you rest your head on the inside of that arm. This creates a gorgeous curve in the back. The butt is over the knees here. Most people find this one to be a nice stretch and are comfortable holding here as I work around them from different angles
The pose below is one of the most requested poses of all - The legs up against the wall pose. (Every Boudoir Photographer in the world will have done this a thousand times but the trick is to make it look like it’s a once in a lifetime pose that no one else has done, and to do that takes a little finessing. Again, like so much in Boudoir Posing, it’s in the triangles and the curves and shape.
For a little next level playfulness to the legs up against the wall pose try it without the wall, by simulating riding a bike with your legs. It’s hard to keep this pose for long and many will struggle with this, but, again, a little extra effort here is well worth it.
This has only scratched the surface of Boudoir Posing but hopefully this article has emphasised the importance of precise and dramatic posing and you’ll have noticed that it only takes a little movement to change the look of a picture a lot. Add variations in lighting, accessories and change the camera angles for even more variations. As well as posing, we consider mood and facial expression with every client. We use props such as chairs settees and curtains, for example as well as a wide variety of outfits and we do all this to ensure that every client gets a wider variety of photo options which they will treasure for the rest of their lives.
All this because we believe that every woman, regardless of age, deserves the empowering experience of having a boudoir session.
