Busting Some Boudoir Myths.

Yorkshire Boudoir Photographers.

Boudoir is something to be done for the man in your life.

Er, absolutely not!

Contrary to popular myth a Boudoir Photoshoot is always primarilly for the person who will gain the most from the experience and that is most definitely YOU!

Ofcourse, it can be for your partner (male or female) and it can make the most beautiful and personal gift but in reality, it’s YOU who will gain so much power and confidence after doing this that really you should consider this as the perfect gift for yourself, because YOU’RE WORTH IT!

If you need to hide behind an excuse to muster up the courage to do this then sure, tell yourself it’s for your partner, but I guarantee it’s you who will benefit the most from this. Win Win!

Use the mindset that you will create looks that please you and that play to your fantasies rather than someone else’s and you’ll gain the most from this experience. It that means you decide to leave the Leeds United sports top at home, then so be it. Want to go naked for the partner?….Why try going naked as a personal challenge to learn to love your body more and make it an experience for yourself?

While we do have many clients booking us for a gift for their wedding or Anniversary, birthday treat etc, we have far more booking us as part of a personal growth plan. They want to celebrate something in their life or mark a personal milestone. Many of our clients are single or divorced and want to discover themselves and regain their power. This is fantastic motivation to book a Boudoir Photoshoot.

When you limit your Boudoir Experience to being just a gift, you put limits on the incredible gift you could be giving yourself. The gift of self love and inner confidence.

Boudoir is just soft porn, isn’t it?

Really?

Do you think?

Many people do tend to roll their eyes when the word ‘Boudoir’ is mentioned but that’s simply because there is so much baggage, shame, and oppression forced on women’s bodies. Women are sexualised from a very early age in the media with images hitting us from everywhere and articles written about the ‘perfect body’. The media shows us pictures every day that leaves little to the imagination but then are told “ don’t dress like a slut” These kind of conflicting messages don’t reach men in the same way. A man showing off his body in the media is ‘fit’ and it’s acceptable to portray a man in just boxer shorts, yet, the female nipple is all but banned from social media altogether. This kind of strange sexualisation of the nipple is near non-existant in most places in Europe. The French don’t get uncontrollably aroused at the sight of a female nipple… It’s a very British thing and it’s something that keeps women in this country from reclaiming their own bodies. The naked body is not inherently sexual (Just look at the art in museums from the last 2000 years.) Boudoir can be about sex. (There really shouldn’t be anything surprising about that. We are sexual beings and sex is everywhere. Heck, even ‘Grease, the musical’ has sex as it’s main theme) - Yet Boudoir is more than that. At it’s core a Boudoir Experience and especially a Madison Bou Boudoir Experience is about the beauty of the human form, about art and about reclaiming one’s body.

Only Models or people with great bodies should do a Yorkshire boudoir photoshoot.

POPYCOCK!

The women on our website are largely 30 something Mums.

We probably photograph more 40 and 50 something women than any other boudoir studio. This is likely because we are over 50 ourselves. (perhaps if we were 20 then we’d attract more 20 somethings)

Our clients have cellulite and stretch marks and we spend a good deal of time helping our clients accept their perfectly imperfect bodies. All humans are uniquely beautiful and we truly believe that. The power of Boudoir is to show you a way to accepting your incredible body and gain strength in your own beauty.

Remember, The perfect body does not exist. (Though the media likes to think it does and spends a good deal of time telling you that you don’t have it)

Madison Bou was set up as a business and that business is to help everyday women move toward body acceptance, not to appeal to a very, very small group of the population who strut down the runway and pose in front of the camera for a living. (or look like they do) Where’s the business sense in that? Size 0 model types actually are the most critical of themselves and also have the least amount of money or inclination to spend on photography. (Maybe they have too many photographs taken of themselves) It’s more thrilling for us to take pictures of ‘normal’ people and make them feel like models. (Plus, we love food too much and the last thing we want to do is photograph someone who looks so hungry all the time!!)

THE SIMPLE FACT IS - BOUDOIR IS FOR EVERY BODY

Boudoir is for every BODY - to help you see yourself differently so that you can do the epic things that you’re meant to do in this short lifetime.

The world needs women who know who the heck they are and who no longer allow their “perfectly imperfect” bodies to hold them back from doing the things they’ve dreamed of doing.

I don’t care if you’re a size XXS or an XXXL. You really should experience a Boudoir Photoshoot.

IF You’re not doing it for someone else, You need a special occasion or reason to book a Yorkshire boudoir shoot.

Sometimes we feel like we need an excuse to do something nice for ourselves, but that excuse can also be…. “because I want to.”

A boudoir photoshoot can simply be a celebration of who you are in this moment in your life.

You don’t need a big birthday, an anniversary, or any other occasion to explain or excuse it.

Do it just for you because you’re worthy, just as you are.

No justification no permission needed.

Any photographer can shoot boudoir

Naturally we think this is rubbish, yet, surprisingly, we get told all the time that we must have a really good camera to take such wonderful pictures.

Is a plumber a good plumber because he has a super expensive monkey wrench? An artist, a good artist because he has a lovely set of brushes?

Of course not!

A good camera doesn’t take good pictures by itself. Boudoir photography is a very specific skill set.

I hope you wouldn’t pay your friend with an iPhone, or a pet photographer to take nude photos of you - it’s not the same!

Nobody can just pick up a camera and take stunning boudoir images, no matter how many pixels a camera has.

Obviously a certain level of photography skill is needed but Boudoir photography isn’t all about lighting and exposure and the technical stuff, it’s actually more about getting clients to relax and look natural in front of the camera. It’s about great posing and direction and it’s about building a rapport with your subject. At Madison Bou, we’ve been photographing women for 20 years and it’s taken that amount of time to learn the skillset needed to ensure beautiful results every single time.

A Boudoir Photographer also needs to know how to direct facial expressions and give simple and prcise directions during the shoot to put the client at ease. A knowledge of what to wear and what works best for boudoir is also needed since most clients will never have done boudoir before.

Since you’ll be putting a lot of yourself on the line for this unique style of photoshoot it’s important to choose a photographer with plenty of experience in the art of Boudoir and not choose some random person with a camera. (This says more about how you value yourself than the photographer)

SOME TRUTHS ABOUT BOUDOIR

Every woman has some insecurities

When you look through our portfolio pages HERE keep in mind that almost every single woman you see on our website came to their session with some insecurities about the way they looked.

SElf doubts about something they don’t like when they look in the mirror but at the end of their session, they left feeling alive and finally able to see the beautiful person they actually are.

Faye told us “I just wanted to say a massive thank you for the fabulous job you did making me feel like a true beautiful person that I am. My confidence now, after this experience, is so much more amazing. No more do I walk down the street with my head down low. It’s now held high and I own that pavement! Thank you again. You are fantastic!” (see her pictures HERE )

Boudoir can be an opportunity for expressing Your Sensuality:

When most people think of boudoir they just think ‘sexy photos’.  Often that idea of ‘sexy’ is associated with trying to be perceived as sexually desirable rather than expressing a deep goddess-like sensuality from within.

For us, sensuality is something that we express when we are tuned into ourselves, listening to our desires, and are owning our inner power.  When we create your images from this place, it’s inevitable that they are going to be sexy.  This is because they are a reflection of you in your most empowered state.

During your boudoir journey, we will be encouraging you to tune into your sensuality every step of the way.  We do this by using things like great hair and make-up, bold outfit choices (We help in the days leading up to the shoot with this) and with our multiple, luxurious locations, perfect for Boudoir.

Boudoir can help you Celebrate Your Deepest Desires

Having desires is a natural, human tendency.  When we celebrate and act on our desires, we can learn to trust ourselves. In turn, we become more confident and at peace with who we are.

However, when we ignore our desires, we often begin to show shame and resentment.

Your Boudoir Photoshoot Experience with Madison Bou has been set up to be a safe space to practice your inner fantasies and desires. These are often very different for everyone. Perhaps you desire to heal yourself after a difficult relationship or a health issue or maybe you want to experiment with some edgy outfit ideas that are outside of your comfort zone.

There are endless ways to celebrate your true self before, during, and long after your photoshoot takes place.
