From ‘Film Noir’ comes the New Dark and Moody ‘Boudnoir’
If ‘Film Noir’ is the cinematic term to describe stylish Hollywood crime dramas, particularly those that emphasise cynical attitudes and motivations set largely in the Golden era of the 50s and 60s - Then our new stylised ‘Boudnoir’ is Inspired by the photography of the great Helmut Newton and we now offer the option of dark and moody Boudoir (or Boudnoir as we call it) - This form of imagery is perfectly suited to the lower light of winter and lends itself well to Hollywood style Black and White portraits from the golden age. Helmut Newton was edgy and controversial in his depiction of powerful, dominant women who were always in control of their sexuality. He was one of the go-to photographers for Vogue in the 60s and 70s and, for our clients who want something a little edgier than traditional boudoir we will work with you to create images with this darker, moodier feel.
For inspiration on outfits for a ‘Boudnoir’ photoshoot, consider dark coloured lingerie, vintage styles, seamed stockings and wasies and garter belts. Anything ‘Shades of Grey’ is perfect. If this is your style, then go for it and have fun. We’ll help create images just for you.
Dark and Moody Boudnoir takes a little longer to set up than light and airy boudoir so we generally don’t take quite as many pictures with this style of shoot. We focus more on getting the light perfect with catchlights in the eyes and just the right amout of light and shade to make the pictures sing in colour or black and white.
We print these pictures on Deep Matte Archival papers and inks which are made for perfect blacks and multiple shades of grey and printed on the state of the art Cannon Dreamlabo 5000 printer.
