Feeling Body Confident During A Nude Boudoir Photoshoot
Women who come to us for a Boudoir Session are generally looking to gain body confidence and feel empowered. We work closely with all our clients to create fully customised experiences tailored to their individual needs. It’s a team effort but we make sure to provide a safe and comfortable environment for every woman to be able to feel free to express their creative side. It’s a huge boost to their confidence.
Some of our clients are looking to go to the next level and pose with little or no clothing.
PREPARING FOR A NUDE BOUDOIR PHOTOSHOOT
If the thought of posing in front of the camera in Lingerie is scary then the idea of posing nude or semi-nude will absolutely terrify you.
This is so far out of most people’s comfort zone that the vast majority of clients who come to us won’t even consider it. That is, until they spend time talking and getting to know us and then spend and hour or two in hair and makeup and then see the shots on the back of the camera of them wearing dresses and lingerie and looking freaking amazing. Then we’re amazed at how many women ask to try some more risque shots at the end. We also have lots of clients who tell us that they wish they’d been braver after seeing the finished pictures at the viewing. (It’s one of the main reasons we have so many women return for another session)
Learning to love your body isn’t something that comes naturally to many women. It can take time and experiences like a Madison Bou Boudoir Photoshoot is one way to gain body confidence and with every session, you will gain more and more confidence.
First thing to do if you’re even considering a nude photoshoot is to choose your photographer with extreme care. This might seem pretty obvious but no two photographers are the same. Take the time to get to know them a little on the phone first. Have a forensic look through their website. Ask yourself if they have real experience taking the kind of pictures you want. It’s one thing to take pictures of women with clothes on and a very different skillset to taking pictures with clothes off.
If you’ve found a photographer that seems to make the kind of pictures you could get excited about that’s the main thing and if what they say on their blog articles seems to resonate with you then that’s great too. Then have a look at previous client reviews. See what real people like you have to say about their experiences and you’ll find that to be a pretty good way of judging how the experience will be for you.
Another consideration might be whether you want a man or a woman to photograph you.
Almost without exception, the hair and make-up team will be female as will the stylist but some Boudoir Studios use male photographers and you have to ask how you would feel with a man photographing you.
At Madison Bou, we are a partnership of Jayne, who does hair and make-up and styling throughout the shoot and Dave, who is the photographer. Both are on set at all times and Dave has been a photographer for 20 years so this is certainly not his first rodeo. Jayne has spent 20 years dancing around the world professionally at places such as Moulin Rouge in Paris so has plenty of experience on posing and body confidence. It’s a team with skill sets and experience we think is pretty unique in Yorkshire.
On the subject of preparing for a Nude Boudoir Photoshoot, try to minimise the fake tan if at all possible. (Natural tan, from the Sun, is fine) - Trust us when we say that fake tan is one of the most difficult things to photograph naturally and clean skin always photographs better, even if you’re feel like your skin is too pale. Also…. Personal grooming. Shaving and waxing is a very personal thing and again, trust us when we say, it makes no real difference to your pictures so if you feel better when groomed, go for it but if not, don’t! Simply, do what you would do normally. Mani and Pedi care can make a huge difference though so this is something we would advise. Chipped nails can often make their way on camera.
We would also advise that you bring a robe with you so you can cover up between shoots. You’ll feel so much more relaxed when covered for makeup touchups and setting up lighting or changing scenes. Clothing can then be removed for just a short time to get the shot and you won’t be exposed for prolonged periods. (On this note…. have a watch of the hilarious scenes featuring Martin Freeman and Joanna Page in Love Actually. )
Lastly, we always suggest doing any nude shots last in the session? Why? because this is when you’ve gained confidence during your shoot and have become most accustomed to the feeling of being photographed. We will have worked together to wipe away your ‘camera face’ (Everyone has one) and replaced it with your most beautiful and relaxed, natural face. This is when the nude (or implied nude) shots will look best.
Honestly, we know that you will gain enormous confidence and empowerment by going a little further beyond your comfort zone that you’ll never regret it. Nobody has ever told us that they wish they’d never tried nude, but so many clients regret not having tried them when they see their final results. Most importantly of all though, know this… Our space is a completely safe non judgemental space which allows you the freedom to explore who you are. If at any point during your session you want to change your plan then you can. You control the shoot not us. We just help you achieve the pictures you want.
