PLUS SIZE BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHY
Celebrating diverse beauty
Boudoir photography has long been associated with celebrating the unique beauty of individuals, transcending conventional standards of attractiveness and throughout this blog you’ll see we constantly address the fact that we welcome and encourage women of all shapes and sizes (and ages) to enjoy the Boudoir Experience.
There is no rule book when it comes to beauty and yet the media, social media, in particular, would like us to think there is. If we were to accept only what the fashion industry shoves down our necks then only size 6 women are able to wear fashionable clothes. Of course this is poppycock and, thankfully, the industry is changing but the change is slow. We are seeing more and more women of different sizes been represented in the media but it’s still the case that the number one reason women stop short of enjoying a Boudoir Experience is because of being self conscious of their weight. This is such a shame since the real power of a Boudoir photoshoot is to build confidence in the way you look and to increase self-love towards the body you have right now. We see it all the time with the women we photograph who start off with body issues (just like everyone else) and then we see how much more they grow in confidence after their shoot. The positive effects are clear to see with absolutely every single person who comes to us, though, with some women, these effects aare extreme. Literally life changing! (We keep saying this but only when you experience it yourself will you really believe it)
In recent years, the industry has witnessed a remarkable shift towards inclusivity, with an increasing focus on plus-size boudoir photography.
This evolving niche focuses on embracing the beauty of every curve, creating a safe-space where individuals of all body types can revel in self-love and empowerment.
The Power of the Term "Plus-Size" is a descriptor term that has gained prominence in the fashion and photography industries.
It seeks to acknowledge and celebrate bodies beyond the traditional standards, providing representation for individuals who may not fit into mainstream size norms. However, it's crucial to recognise that language evolves, and what's considered empowering to some may not resonate with others.
Some prefer alternative terms like "curvy" or "body-positive." The key though, is to prioritise individual preference, ensuring that the chosen term reflects the positive and inclusive spirit of the movement.
Plus-size boudoir photography is not just about capturing beautiful images - it's also a celebration of confidence and empowerment.
We use lighting, angles, and poses learned over a 20 year period to accentuate the beauty of every curve, creating a visual narrative that promotes self-love.
Our emphasis is on showcasing the unique attributes and individuality of each client, allowing them to see themselves in a new and empowering light. This is a hard concept to come to terms with. So many of the women we see have become more fearful of being photographed because of the disastrous pictures they’ve seen of themselves in the past. It’s ironic that in this day and age when everyone has a camera in their pocket, everyone has social media and everyone takes selfies by the bucketload, that we have become more fearful of the camera rather than less fearful of it and that’s because few people have the skills to take a good picture. After all, put me at the wheel of the world’s fastest car and I’ll probably end up in a ditch. A skilled driver will end up winning the Grand Prix….. You see, a having acamera doesn’t make you a good photographer. The more crappy pictures of you that you see, the more phobic you’ll become about being photographed.
If you take just one thing away from this article it should be this….
YOU are not the reason you see bad photographs of yourself, it’s the photographer’s fault every single time!
Trust us when we tell you, a good photographer will never, ever take bad photographs of you.
Just like a good plasterer will never mess up your walls or a good cook will never mess up your dinner.
Hate your Wedding Photographs? ….. I’m sorry, the simple fact is you chose the wrong photographer. (Maybe you under-budgeted or didn’t ask them enough questions or chose to use a friend of a ‘friend’)
All drivers, all plasterers, all cooks and certainly all photographers are not created equal.
This genre of boudoir photography plays a vital role in breaking stereotypes and challenging traditional norms in society.
Human Beings are so vastly different from one another that by showcasing diverse body types, we can send a powerful message that beauty is not confined to a specific size.
Each photograph becomes a statement, encouraging viewers to embrace a broader definition of beauty and appreciate the richness that comes with diversity.
For the Madison Bou Boudoir Experience we focus on creating a comfortable, safe and inclusive environment for every body.
From the choice of wardrobe to posing techniques, we always work collaboratively with our clients to ensure that the experience is empowering and tailored to individual preferences.
The goal is to provide a space where everyone feels celebrated, confident, and beautiful.
Why Plus Size Boudoir Photography Is a Game Changer
In recent years the Body Positivity movement has been a breath of fresh air. It calls for the acceptance of all body types, shapes, sizes and colours. Essentially it calls for acceptance of the simple fact that the diverse range of the human race is vast and no one should ever be body shamed or feel the need to be doubting of their own beauty and self worth. Confidence has no size limit. Now is the time to come out of hiding and stand proudly in front of the camera and be seen for the beautiful human being you are. Let your curves shine and show the world the real, gorgeous you. Ignore the haters - This is your time!
So what’s holding you back and stopping you from doing this?
Your size?
No… that’s actually your superpower in the world of boudoir photography. Curves are sexy!
It’s time to be bold, be you, and book that shoot.
