We all worry about about our tummy area, particularly as we get older.

Yet, if you have a look at the many hundreds of women featured on this website you’ll never see stretch marks or ‘Mummy Tummy’.

This is because we’ve learned over the years, the fine art of concealing the things we don’t like and revealing the things we do.

Careful lighting and posing and the use of fabrics has become our mainstay.

As a rule of thumb, twin set bra and panties are the most revealing lingerie. Unless you have invested in really high quality lingerie sets or you are really body confident we recommend some alternatives in this article. In fact, sometimes going naked and using fabric such as tulle or voile will make you look more fabulous than a poorly fitting twin set. (No little bulges where the panties cut into the waist or bra straps cut into the underarms.)

Remember, Boudoir shoots are the perfect way to get your confidence back and celebrate the body you were given!

What To Do The Night Before Your Boudoir Photoshoot

Like packing for a holiday, it’s important to make sure you have everything ready in advance so in the morning you don’t have to stress that you’ve forgotten anything.

So many women tell us they think they’re too old to do a Boudoir Photoshoot.

The truth is, you’re never too old to do this.

In fact, the positive effect a photoshoot experience like this will have on you only gets better with age.

The whole point of a Boudoir Experience is to learn not to be so judgemental about yourself. To accept yourself how you are, right now. To learn to accept the truly amazing woman that you have become. There is no point in comparing yourself to how you looked 10 or 20 years ago any more than compare yourself with other women. This is not being kind to yourself. Being kind to yourself is to accept the way you are. We’re all ‘perfectly imperfect’ and accepting that is a truly positive thing.

Many, many women who come to us become completely lost over the years after having children.

They spend their lives looking after the kids, the school run, the organising, the shopping, the nursing, the teaching and then of course, trying to be the perfect partner. Not to mention the fact that often they’ve sacrificed their careers.

It’s not surprising that many women come to us and tell us they feel like they’ve ‘lost themselves’ .

These Mums are often very organised.

They write lists of things to do every day full of all the things they have to do for the kids, their partner, the house but guess what? They themselves, are never on the list.

They ‘do stuff’ for everyone else but never have any time to do anything, just for themselves.

In fact, the very idea of doing something for themselves would feel unjustly self indulgent.

Yet why shouldn’t these women do things for themselves? Are they not worth it?

We’ve been photographing Weddings for 20 years and during that time the concept of wedding boudoir or ‘bridal boudoir’ has increased dramatically. So much so, in fact, that having brides ask us to do some ‘sexy pictures’ for their husbands to be, has built the foundation for our portrait business.

You see, we were, almost exclusively a wedding studio. Every weekend shooting weddings, then 40 hours on editing and the engagement shoot plus the numerous meetings with the couple and members of the family…. That takes up a huge amount of time and resources for a studio. However, as we grew, and brides saw what we could do for them, we found that those brides looking for something a little different for their wedding photography, would actively seek us out and become drawn to the fact that we offered packages with wedding boudoir included. Sometimes it was added as an hour photo shoot on the morning of the wedding itself, but pretty soon it became an independent package which would be scheduled many weeks ahead of the wedding day so brides could create a perfect gift for the groom on the day.

Of course, now our portrait business has grown to the point that the majority of ‘boudoir’ photoshoots we do are not related to weddings at all, but there’s no denying that this wouldn’t have happened for us if it were not for our brides. We are Wedding Boudoir Photographers through and through.

For most of our clients, this is the first time they’ve ever done anything like this before and the vast majority of women who come to us have real anxiety about the way they look. In fact, one of the main reasons clients book a photoshoot with us is because they’ve read so much about the effort we take to make women feel as comfortable as possible for their photoshoot experience…. These pictures show the results of Amelia’s photoshoot at Hazlewood Castle.

She wanted the pictures to feel beautiful again after a long period of Covid lockdown but also wanted some pictures she could use as marketing for her Belly Dancing and Book Publishing projects.. Many studios have rigid structure and due to the volume of work they do, can’t cater so well to individual requests. For us, the chance to create some dance pictures was too good to miss.

Her new book has just been released and is available on Amazon, called ‘The Vicar Man’ - A light-hearted historical fantasy that pokes fun at traditional horror and romantic fiction. Fans of Terry Pratchett or Jodi Taylor will love this book.

One of the things clients are most worried about when they arrive at a Madison Bou session is posing. You should know that we will pose you down to your very fingertips.

Seriously, you’ll never need to worry how to pose. We know the angles, what to do with your hands and how to stand to look amazing.

We will work your chin, shoulders and your hands and we will work your curves and give you a killer figure. Then, we will work your connection with the camera. That’s super important.

The subtleties of posing will make or break your pictures and understanding this takes years of practice.
