So many of our clients want great photographs of the art they’ve invested in and we adore all creative tattoos. So much fun, so cool and they always look amazing in pictures.

I first became interested in body art when I watched a film in the mid 90s starring Ewan McGregor called the Pillow Book, a dark and sensual story of lust and revenge by Peter Greenaway. The film fascinated me and filled me with possibilities. Our bodies really can be wonderful parchments for some great art.

So many women dread getting older.

Those first grey hairs spotted in the mirror, the aching all over feeling in the morning, feeling drained after being taxi driver for the kids 5 days in a row and the countless other things that tell you, “you’re not as young as you used to be”

Although nothing can stop the ageing process it doesn’t mean that you have to start wearing a twin set, cutting your hair and wearing sensible shoes and frumpy, shape covering tops. Far from it.

A Boudoir Experience with Madison Bou Photography is all about learning to set some time aside and prioritise showing ourselves some love and compassion once in a while.

You see, as a general rule, we spend so much time prioritising those we love in our life that we never seem to put aside any time for ourselves. It can be exhausting looking after our significant other and the kids and pretty soon we find that we have no life at all.

Many of our clients tell us that they feel that over the years they’ve lost themselves and don’t really know who they are any more.

There is a saying that you can’t love anyone else unless you love yourself first and this means putting the the work in to becoming the best you can be.

In fact, we believe that a little self indulgence isn’t selfish but actually essential for overall health and happiness!

Taking care of yourself should be you number one priority. We only get one brief lifetime and it’s important to enjoy it as much as possible. After all - You’re worth it!

Over the years, it seems we humans have become less comfortable with being photographed yet because of social media and camera phones, there are now more photos of us than ever before. How odd! Yet, it is for that very reason, that we see so many pictures of ourselves that we have become super picky about every angle.

Most of the pictures we see are taken in poor light by people who have little idea about photography.

Seeing so many bad pictures of ourselves is what’s making us more nervous of being in front of the camera.

It’s a little counter intuitive.

So in this article, we want to redress the balance and give you a little confidence back.

With these simple tips you will be able to look super comfortable in front of the camera and love the way you look. No one should ever be afraid of the camera.

Remember, in our view, it’s not you, it’s the bad photographer who takes a bad picture….

If you’re preparing for your boudoir style photoshoot then you may be a little nervous about how to pose. We get this a lot and always say that we’ve been doing this for so many years now that we will pose you down to your fingertips and you won’t have to worry about a thing.

Boudoir Photoshoots are often associated with Beds and so for this article we thought it would be a good idea to show just how many poses can be created very easily on the bed.

Most bed poses come from these ideas as the inspiration and as we progress through the session, we adapt each pose to suit your body shape, flexibility and style.

Your Boudoir style photoshoot may not even include a bed at all. Sometimes it’s more appropriate to use a chaise longue or settee or sometimes, even the floor!

We live in such a dangerous world of Social Media where everyone we see looks like a celebrity with perfect skin, barbie doll bodies, symmetrical features etc. All the pictures we see have been put through some kind of filter or retouched in some way.

This is highly dangerous because our kids end up thinking this is in some way, normal and if they don’t look like that then they must be ‘not normal’. Is it any wonder that so many teenagers have eating disorders and grow up feeling inadequate.?

Do you remember Kate Moss, the supermodel? She was the one out partying all night with Johnny Depp and only those who have actually gone out partying all night and smoked like a chimney will actually know that you will certainly not wake up the next day with flawless skin. At some point you need to put the work in with excercise, lots of water and less cigs. The rest is amazing hair and make-up.

I had just had my youngest daughter, she’s now 7. To this day I still don’t know what on earth possessed me to book a Boudoir shoot only 7 weeks after giving birth when I felt the worst I’d felt in a long time.

I suffered with Hyperemesis Gravidarum (like Kate Middleton) and had actually lost 9.5kg during my pregnancy but still had the dreaded wobbly bits.

I needn’t have been worried. After having my hair and makeup done I felt like a woman again, like me again.

After the first few shots were taken, I quickly forgot about being nervous and surprisingly started to enjoy myself!

Halfway through my shoot, my daughter needed her nappy changing which was also taken care of and with the help of a paper windmill, she was soon fast asleep again.

Going to see my pictures was nerve-wracking and I was apologising in advance to my now-husband because I was sure I’d look awful.

How wrong was I?!

The styling, lighting and professional talent came together and I looked at myself for the first time in years and actually liked what I saw.

Nothing beats the feeling of looking at yourself at thinking “wow, I’m hot!!” and every woman deserves this.

Having the pictures to look back on is something I will always be glad I have – pushing myself out of my comfort zone led to one of the most liberating things I’ve done. … Anna

Emily suffers from long term M.E.

It took years to diagnose it and she was lucky to have tremendous support from her husband, Craig. 

Emily and Craig reached out to us to create some beautiful pictures they could both enjoy for many years. Emily wanted pictures like this for her husband to enjoy as much as she would and the effort it took to do the session was exhausting for her. She arrived in her wheelchair and we took things really easy so that we didn’t drain too much of her energy. Towards the end, we could tell she was getting tired so we suggested she returns after a few days rest to do the woodland shoot she was so looking forward to. 

The results were exactly what they were looking for and Emily tells us that all the pain was worth it for the pictures she ended up with.
